Ben Shorr

Ascending from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ben Shorr is a hip hop poet that embraces his growth throughout his hardships. From battling addiction and homelessness, Shorr found his therapy through pen and paper, expressing his inner self, and telling his story. Shorr would further develop his creative work by turning these poems into music, and giving the words he wrote a voice. Shorr found music to be an outlet, helping him stay away from addiction, and inspire those who may be going through the struggles he once had. Shorr would trade the street lights in for the star light, changing his battles with substances, into battles over the microphone. Incorporating impactful and meaningful lyricism with a nostalgic, but fresh sound has set him aside from other artists.

Ben Shorr has been exploding in the hip hop scene by collaborating with artists who have helped inspire him, such as Akrobatik, Mr. Lif, Styles P, Talib Kweli, Blackalicious, Sadat X and Das EFX, as well as a plethora of other talented creatives. Being able to share the stage with those he looked up to has been a monumental push and affirmation that music is what he was born to create. 

Ben Shorr released ‘My Lifestyle’ as a message to everyone, that no one will get above himself or his team. The track’s production gives the feeling of royalty, infused with the grittiness of the streets. Shorr conveys the message that you would not be able to understand his struggles, accomplishments, and drive. From where Shorr came from, to where he is now, he has put years of work into building himself as not just an artist, but as an individual. As Shorr states in the track, “I turned my life around, I came straight out the sewers”, you can feel the pain and pride Shorr is experiencing. During the creative process, Shorr states that the beat spoke to him and provoked him to write the chorus for the track, showing great emotion and adaptability, by mixing a melodic sound over a classic hip hop styled hit. Overall, Ben Shorr shines on this track for his versatility, lyricism, and intensity.
